Acadia National Park, located on Maine’s Mount Desert Island and Schoodic Peninsula, is the only National Park in the Northeast.
The area has been used for thousands of years, starting with the Wabanaki Native Americans, followed by European settlers and growing tourism, attracting artists and wealthy tourists.
Now the 8th most visited U.S. National Park, Acadia offers stunning scenery, diverse hikes, iconic food, and a charming nearby town, making it a must-visit destination for all.
Acadia At a Glance
Acadia National Park is located in Downeast Maine, with no major cities very close by. Your closest airport options are Bangor International Airport (1 hour), Portland International Jetport (3 hours) or Boston Logan International Airport (4.5 hours).
Acadia National Park does not require reservations to enter, however vehicle reservations are required for Cadillac Summit Road during the season.

We think fall is the PERFECT time to be in Acadia! There are slightly less crowds than in the summer plus beautiful fall foliage.
Different Areas of the Park
There are three main sections of Acadia National Park. They include Mount Desert Island (both a western and eastern side), the Schoodic Peninsula, and Isle au Haut. Mount Desert Island’s east side, where Bar Harbor is located, is the most popular area of the park with the most things to do.
Warning: These sections are not close together! The Schoodic Peninsula takes about an hour to drive to from Mount Desert Island, and Isle au Haut requires a 1 hour and 15 minute drive plus a ferry!
