Shenandoah National Park sits in Northern Virginia, just 75 miles from Washington, DC, and within easy reach of several major East Coast cities. It’s home to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, best experienced along Skyline Drive, plus waterfalls, wildlife, and great hiking trails, especially the park’s most famous hike, Old Rag Mountain.
Shenandoah At a Glance

Shenandoah National Park is located in Northern Virginia, just 75 miles from Washington, DC, and conveniently close to several major East Coast cities. The closest airports to the northern entrance are Dulles International Airport (1 hour) or Ronald Reagan International Airport (! hour 15 minutes). The closest airport to the southern entrance is the Richmond International Airport (1 hour 30 minutes).

Between March 1 and November 30, anyone hiking the Old Rag Area (including Saddle, Ridge, and Ridge Access trails) must have both a park entrance pass and an Old Rag day-use ticket, which needs to be reserved ahead of time.

$30 per vehicle for 7 days or FREE with the America the Beautiful pass.

April through October will be the best times to visit Shenandoah National Park to avoid any ice or snow on the trails and be treated to the best weather. The summer is the busiest, along with weekends in the fall. Visiting in the fall means beautiful fall foliage!
