Puerto Rico–Day 6

Today was our last day in Puerto Rico and it is a bit bittersweet. We miss our puppy, but we also love being on vacation and seeing new things. We had an awesome last day, though! My dad booked a snorkeling trip for all of us and it was so much fun! We went on the Spread Eagle II Catamaran with around 49 other people. What was funny is that two of the groups were people we ran into separately at the rain forest yesterday. One was a couple and the other was a family of 9. We talked with the family of 9 a lot today. They had a couple kids around our ages, so it was fun to hang out with them. We also met two families from Texas (one from Dallas and one from Round Rock).

Our first snorkel spot was Icacos Island, which is a pretty island about 45 minutes from the main island. We were able to snorkel there and get on the beach. Unfortunately, a big rain cloud came when we docked and it rained for a good chunk of our time there. It was still fun though! After we snorkeled there, we got to make our own sandwiches from their sandwich making station on the boat. We also got unlimited pina coladas and other drinks throughout the ride. 🙂
After lunch, we headed to our next snorkel spot. This spot was a private island that apparently is frequented by celebrities (it even has a helipad!). We weren’t able to get on the land since it is private, but the water was all open to the public. This spot was awesome! We got to see lots of cool fish and there were tons of reefs to check out.
After snorkeling, we went to dinner at a restaurant called La Estacion. I had heard lots of good things and was super excited all week to finally get to check it out. The restaurant is a converted gas station and has really neat decor. We sat outside which had a lot of flies, but was a great setting for our last dinner. They specialize in BBQ and my brothers + Adam got ribs, I got chicken pinchos and beans and rice, my dad got chicken mofongo, and my mom got a veggie platter with beans and rice, two salads, and fries.

We all loved our food and it was probably one of the best meals of the trip! We normally don’t get dessert out, but my dad was in a “it’s our last night of vacation” mindset and when the waiter explained the three desserts they have, my dad decided we should just get all three. I forgot to mention that before dinner we went to kill time at a McDonalds before the restaurant opened and we all got McFlurries….gotta live it up on vacation, right?

The three desserts were a fried plantain empanada with ice cream, a chocolate cake with sweet corn ice cream and caramel corn, and tres leches cake (Adam’s favorite). They all were awesome, but I think the chocolate cake with the sweet corn ice cream and caramel corn was my favorite (the plantain one was awesome also).

We all left completely stuffed, but it was totally worth it. I highly recommend checking out La Estacion if you are ever in Puerto Rico.

This trip has been such a fun time. There is never a dull moment with my family and lots of laughs were had throughout the week (including one moment last night where I fell on the floor laughing). Puerto Rico offers a lot when it comes to beaches, food, and hiking and we are super thankful to my parents for letting us tag along with them. Already looking forward to our next adventure!
